Since its debut in October 1991, the third-generation RX-7, the FD3S, has repeatedly evolved to fulfill its mission, reaching a state of perfection as the only rotary sports car that the world can be proud of. The FD3S, which had been loved and run for 11 long years, was forced to end production in August 2002 due to the influence of the 2000 exhaust gas regulations. Prior to the end of production, the final special limited edition "RX-7 Spirit R" was released in April 2002.
