Oshkosh's M-ATV was developed as an anti-mine anti-ambush vehicle (MRAP) to compete with the US Army's M-ATV program, meaning an all-terrain anti-mine anti-ambush vehicle. Research and development in the Wisconsin division. It is designed to be more protective than the earlier MRAP, and the vehicle is heavier, but with a deliberate maneuverability, mainly used to replace the Army's M1114 Hummer ATV.
The M-ATV uses the TAK-4 universal independent suspension modified from the MTVR tactical truck, using an armored body similar to the JLTV.
